Cannot agree to disagree
How incredibly frustrating it is when something you know to be objectively true is denied by otherwise reasonable adults. Such is the state that much of the country, myself included, regularly find ourselves in when discussing or responding to issues like abortion and gender ideology.
Ohio HB 68 is a case in point. Because of the Ohio legislature’s recent override of Gov. DeWine’s veto, it will soon be illegal in the state to alter children’s bodies in an attempt to match them to the opposite sex. And males who present themselves as females will no longer be allowed to compete as females in high school and college sports.
This, to me and many others, is just common sense, based on an objective view of reality. There are only two sexes, male and female, not “assigned” at birth but observed at birth. Your sex is fixed and determined in every cell in your body. It is impossible to become or actually be the opposite sex.
This is basic biology; an objective reality. Men in women’s sports and children getting unnecessary, life-altering, Frankensteinian surgeries should not be controversial topics. But they are. And both sides believe they are acting in the best interests of the people affected.
But some are surely acting in their own interests instead. A desire for acceptance and affirmation from a woke mob that wants to throw off any residuals of traditional norms, including basic biology, drives some to support stupidity.
And not just stupidity but evil. What gender ideology is doing in confusing, sterilizing, maiming, and stealing the innocence of children is evil. What abortion advocates are doing in supporting the right of a woman to kill her own child is evil.
Some controversial issues allow for agreeing to disagree. Not those that promote evil. Agreement must be sought because evil must be fought. This requires tireless efforts to focus the debate on what is true, which is a difficult challenge when the reality of objective truth itself is debated. And when even those who believe in objective truth care little about it, preferring to advance their irrational position with objective lies.
Truth will win out in the end. But how many children’s lives will be ruined or snuffed out before it does?
