A 4 letter word for Peace

Nobody likes to wait. I mean, I don’t think I need to do a survey to know that nobody likes to wait.

But wait we must – for the coffee to be ready, the traffic light to change, a new administration to begin, the Browns to win the Super Bowl. Some wait times are longer than others.

So waiting is hard, but being told to wait when God is the one saying it makes life easier.

Consider if as a child you struggled in school and to encourage you your father told you he had something for you and would give it to you soon. But you have to wait. Because you know your dad is a good man who loves you, though the anticipation may make waiting difficult, the certainty that something good is coming makes it bearable.

In the same way, God telling us to wait is meant to encourage us because by it he is saying, I know what you’re going through but hang in there. I will make everything right. Just trust in me.

Would he tell us to wait if he didn’t care? He could just leave us on our own to wonder and worry and hope that he will do something. But in that little four-letter word is the assurance that he is in control and that resolution, redemption, justice, and eternal bliss is in our future if we belong to him. Waiting on the Lord produces peace.

So whatever trial God is allowing in your life right now, know that blessing will come. And take heed to the words of the One “from whom all blessings flow.”

Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! – Psalm 27:14

Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. – Isaiah 30:18

but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:31

The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. –  Lamentations 3:25

It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” – Isaiah 25:9

From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him. – Isaiah 64:4
