Love not actually

Maybe my exposure is too limited, but it seems to me most folks on the left have a serious disconnect between their boasting and their behavior. I sure see plenty of examples in the news of the proud promoters of diversity and inclusion stomping all over views and people they disagree with.

But I’ve also seen it in my own family, and it’s disconcerting. When those whom you love refuse to show love to you but instead angrily criticize you merely because of your choice of a candidate, and coming from a position of supposed tolerance, it makes you wonder.

What’s going on here? I’m far from the first one to notice this dissonance between declaration and deportment, but here’s what I think.

  • If you purport to love your neighbor in the inner city and foreigners coming to our border, but persecute and castigate your neighbor next door because you can’t abide his views, your “love” is selective and self-serving.
  • Hate is defined as “intense or passionate dislike.” The passionate intensity of the dislike leftists have for Donald Trump, noted frequently and aptly identified as Trump Derangement Syndrome, and by extension those who vote for him, makes them clearly culpable of the hatred they accuse others of.
  • So not only are they not the tolerant lovers of their fellow man, but they hate half of us.
  • The ease with which they act contrary to what they speak suggests a willful blindness to anything that exposes the error of their views. A clear, well-reasoned defense of a vote for Trump is rejected on its face because it threatens the validity of their conviction that there is no such thing. They have no tolerance for this kind of diversity.

Trump voters are accused of being ignorant of truth and detached from reality by the same people who claim men who say they are women are real women. Most of us on the right argue for our position with facts and logic, but the left largely relies on emotion and outrage.

Admittedly, not every Democrat is consumed with Trump hatred and deluded and deranged by it. But those who are do their party and their candidate no good with their refusal to simply be civil, thoughtful, tolerant, and fair.
