This week in incoherence – 3/25/17
The filibuster is one of the oddest maneuvers in American politics. It always seemed childish to me…like a line of bullies blocking the door to the cafeteria. It becomes even more childish when senators flip flop on their views regarding it depending on whether their party is in power or not. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is warning Republicans not to employ the “nuclear option” to end any filibuster by Democrats of Judge Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation hearings. Never mind that when Barack Obama was president the Democrats took full advantage of the nuclear option to end the filibuster for his nominees.
Donald Trump may regret a lot of what he tweets. I’m hoping so anyway. Surely he must wish he hadn’t “tweeted out” President Obama for all his golf outings when there was so much presidential work to be done. Because darned if he ain’t doin’ the same thing.
Earlier this month at an elite, normally peaceful Vermont college, a near riot ensued when an invited conservative speaker was shouted down by the student body for his unpopular beliefs. Not only was this another example of the assault on free speech from the supposedly tolerant ones, but as one commentator reveals, this demonstration of hate and intolerance was instigated by an organization that promotes itself as a combatant of hate and intolerance.
And in another shameful and hypocritical display of distorted and preferential views on freedom of speech, intentional vandalism is defended as free speech while factual statements of basic biology are branded as hate speech. Go figure.
Speaking of shame, I just love it when liberal feminists are all about equality and respect for women, unless the woman is pre-born or, as in this case, Republican. It’s almost comical to watch or read the dialogical contortions some feminist leaders strain at in holding the party line. Nancy Pelosi is the one who should be ashamed.
