I’ll take FAULTY ARGUMENTS for $200, Alex

If “I’m not ready to have a child” is a good enough reason for abortion, it’s also a good enough reason for infanticide. It’s a good enough reason to smother the child when he’s two because you just don’t have the mothering skills. Or when he’s 15 because he’s making your life miserable with his rebellious ways and you just don’t know what to do with him. Same for “I can’t afford a child.”

If “Don’t like abortion? Don’t have one” is a good argument, then so is “Don’t like slavery? Don’t own a slave.” “Don’t like theft? Don’t steal.” “Don’t like violent, destructive riots? Stay home.”

“Illegal abortions are dangerous but women will still get them, so we should keep abortion legal.” Men risk their own lives murdering others so we should legalize murder. And burglarizing the home of a gun-owner carries a risk to the burglar’s life, so there should be a law saying homeowners must welcome a burglar and protect his life while he takes your stuff.

If outlawing abortion is “forced pregnancy,” then laws against child abuse are forced child care. And mortgage repayment laws are forced debt. And jail time for vehicular homicide is forced ruin of one’s life and reputation.

If Roe vs. Wade is overturned babies will continue being killed because abortion will still be allowed in some states and faulty arguments like these and others are accepted without question. And they aren’t questioned because they provide cover for the real basis for abortion rights: It’s all about me.
